In December 2013, Trailhead Church launched its first capital campaign, “Rooted & Growing,” with the goal of raising enough money to buy a building here in Edwardsville. God’s people pledged more than $670,000 — an astonishing amount for a small, young congregation. Those funds equipped Trailhead to plant roots in the community and grow our outreach efforts in every direction like vines shooting out from a healthy branch.

We cheered because the campaign was successful. We celebrated because God had provided. But it wasn’t really about the money after all. Turns out, it was about our hearts.

Over the course of the next three years, God re-oriented the hearts of the faithful who gave sacrificially. He used sacrifice to produce heart change. He used money to show us there’s beauty and freedo.m in trusting him. Trailhead experienced a church-wide spiritual renewal and a new culture of generosity was born.

Now, six years later, God is preparing Trailhead Church for its next season through our “Flourish: Growing in Fruitfulness” capital campaign. He wants us to flourish, not with worldly riches, but with the fruit he promises through his spirit. Yes, we’re working to eliminate our debt to create opportunities for growth and ministry, but it’s so much more than that. The money is just a tool — a pruning tool if you will — to prepare the branches of our heart for bearing fruit in ways that we can’t yet imagine.
